Yoga Therapy with Martha Catz, M.S., E-RYT
Yoga therapy is a method for healing and repairing; for improving behaviors that affect physical and mental well-being as well as developing a perspective of wholeness rather than that of being fractured by illness or injury. Yoga therapy adapts traditional yoga practices of asana, breath-work and mindfulness meditation to fit the needs of the individual person, whether that issue originates from an injury, chronic disease or stressful living conditions.
The goals of yoga therapy are to improve daily living function, reduce symptoms, and, when ever possible, define the root cause of the issue and create long lasting positive change. Yoga therapy also helps individuals develop new and healthy perspectives to their own life. It is a nurturing, whole person therapy that explores present mind/body conditions, and personal strengths and beliefs as a process towards achieving realistic goals.
Martha Catz, M.S., E-RYT, has received over 800 hours in Yoga therapy training. Her Master’s degree in Health Psychology, and training as an integrative health coach and in mindful awareness meditation through the Duke Integrative Medicine programs, supports and informs her yoga therapy practice.
